A visit to Hargrove’s native Marsala, Italy, he and Debbie stayed for a few days in brother Mario’s country house. An exploratory walk led the couple along a cobblestoned path to a magnificent old house with a handsomely-manicured garden. The sun shining through an overhead arbor splashed the house with patterns of light and shade. Both had to stop and drink in the scene. 
The memory of that house and garden is what inspired “The Arbor,” a visual tribute to the land of Hargrove’s birth.
